The Addlestone Chronicles Trilogy is set in the mid 1930s. I have James driving a Railton Eight Coupé. This marque was manufactured by the Fairmile Engineering Company between 1933 and 1938. Their factory was located less than six miles from Woburn Park, Addlestone, the home of the primary characters in these novels. It had a British designed body incorporating the engine and chassis of the American Hudson Terraplane. The Railton weighed less than the Hudson and consequently outperformed the Terraplane. It had an eight cylinder engine and could accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 8.8 seconds, hence the chosen name. Fewer than 1,400 cars were produced at their factory in Cobham, Surrey.
