Lebensborn is the title of the second book in the trilogy, The Addlestone Chronicles. It is primarily devoted to exposing the German’s programme called Lebensborn, which translates to the fount of life. Lebensborn homes were part of a breeding programme started in 1935. Girls and women to were encouraged and often times coerced into pregnancy whereby they would give up their baby to be adopted by senior Nazi party members or SS officers. The aims of this well-documented programme was to increase the German population of Aryan types for their forecasted thousand-year Reich.
Anni-Frid Lyngstad, simply known as Frida, is a founding member of the pop group ABBA. She was also a Lebensborn baby. Born in November 1945 in Norway, her mother was shunned because her biological father was a married Nazi German sergeant. After the war, her mother and grandmother took Anni-Frid and resettled in Sweden. In 2002, The Guardian newspaper included her in their list of the 12,000 Norwegian Lebensborn children. They called her a ‘tyskerbarnas’ (or ‘bastard of Germans) and her mother, Synni, was labelled ‘tyskerhoren’ (sluts of the Germans). After the end of the war, her mother and grandmother sought refuge in Sweden for fear of reprisals from the Norwegian population, whose government placed many of the children born to German soldiers in mental institutions or expelled them abroad.
