Lebensborn, the second novel in the trilogy, The Addlestone Chronicles, covered the 1936 Berlin Olympics and Jesse Owens’ four gold medals. Hitler attended the games but refused to award the gold medal to a Black athlete, despite press claims that he intended to do so for all winners of the events.
I have James attending the games as an oarsman on the GB team. He was a Cambridge University rower but was also chosen to go to Berlin in his role as an MI5 spy. The inspiration for this was the 2014 novel by Daniel James Brown, which described how the amateur oarsmen from the University of Washington traveled across half the world and pipped the German team at the post in one of the closest finishes in any Olympics eights competition.
It has now been turned into a feature film directed by George Clooney, released on December 25, 2023.
