Lebensborn covered the 1936 Berlin Olympics and Jesse Owen’s four gold medals. Hitler attended the games but refused to award the gold medal to a black athlete despite press claims he intended to do so.
I have James attending the games as an oarsman on the GB team. He was a Cambridge rower but was also chosen to go to Berlin in his role as a MI5 spy. The inspiration for this was the 2014 novel by Daniel James Brown which described how the amateur oarsmen from the University of Washington travelled across half the world and pipped the German team at the post in one of the closest finishes in any Olympics eight’s competition.
It has now been turned into a feature film, directed by George Clooney and released on December 25th 2023.
